I worked at AEP full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Stable work environment and workforce. Many employees have been with the company for 30+ years. Benefits are great and include a pension fund. If you are looking for a comfortable place to put it into cruise control, this would be a very average place to do it.

    Cons

Not much room for advancement unless you are located at Columbus OH or Tulsa OK. The major con for me was lack of innovation that comes from a regulated business with an average employee age of ~48. Very poor IT infrastructure. AEP was using Office 2002 until Q1 2013, and old cannibalized laptops.

    Advice to Management

    Provide incentive compensation.

I have been working at AEP full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Some really great people at all levels.

    Cons

Politics rule, pay increases infrequent and don't keep up with COLA. Too many levels of management. Two managers to manage three employees and they wonder why costs are too high.

    Advice to Management

Draw on your talent pool, listen to your people. If you want to cut costs look at cutting that redundant layer of management.
