I have been working at AIG full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Management regularly provides updates on success/failures via a Town Hall format. I find this information to be very insightful to the state of the company.

    Cons

AIG recently switched to a pay for performance system. This is a pro and a con. It is a pro because if you perform well, you have the potential to earn bonuses that would far exceed your merit increase. The con is that these bonuses are dependent on the financial success of the company. Although the company is doing well now, that is a concern for the future. However, if you receive a promotion, you will receive a base salary increase.

    Advice to Management

Return to a merit based pay system. I think many people will be attracted to the pay for performance system for a few years but eventually, they are going to want to make more money. My fear is that top talent may leave for a competitor that will pay them more.
