I have been working at AIG full-time (Less than a year)

Pros

Great depth in insurance products and exposure to learn new insurance products. Company is trying to change the way it does business by measuring and assessing KPIs

Cons

myriad IT systems, bureaucratic, not very nimble. Less alignment between IT goals and business goals results in process inefficiencies

Advice to Management

Make IT a business enabler NOT a resource hogging cost center

I worked at AIG full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Benefits are OK and the location of the office and the office facilities are pretty good.

    Cons

Managers are hung up on being the best in their peer review at the expense of the employees that are worked overtime until they burn out and quit. Also, I can't believe the company is still stuck on Windows XP.

    Advice to Management

Learn that you can't only focus on the date of the delivery, you need to understand scope and resources. Remember Brook's law: 9 women can't have a baby in a month. Your best people leave because you're more concerned about your bonus than your people.

I have been working at AIG full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    International Presence.
    Financial Strength
    Brand Image
    Horizontal Job Opportunities
    Vertical Job Opportunities
    Retirement Benefits Are Excellent

    Cons

Pay for Performance System Utilized The Past Two Years is essentially an episode of "Survivor" where managers in roundtable discussions who don't align themselves with other managers are at a distinct disadvantage.

    Advice to Management

Create opportunities for advancement outsdie of New York. Most of the positions we post are still in New York; one of the most expensive places to live in the U.S. and around the globe.
