I have been working at AMC Entertainment part-time (More than a year)

Pros

Can work as many hours as wanted, semi flexible scheduling, works around school/vacations and thats about the only reason ive stayed here as long as I have. get a disney ID and occasional park tickets which is nice.

Cons

NO overtime, terrible supervisors and managers, supervisors are young and 18 years old, management not much better and none of them have prior restaurant experience, corporate messes up paychecks constantly, horrible tippers, just dont work here. its a nut house. always expected to run trays no matter how tired you are, or if you even have any tables. everyone else is beyond lazy. bussers dont do anything. and required tipshare towards bussers and bar is ridiculous. always looked down upon and treate as a child for the stupidest things. parking.

Advice to Management

too much to say, but you guys are clueless and have no idea how to run a real restaurant

I worked at AMC Entertainment part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

-FREE MOVIES 24/7 ( This is honestly the only reason why I held off quitting. Anytime you want, any movie. You can bring any amount of immediate family and one friend(maybe more if a nice supervisor is working. Saves so much money, and you'll always have something to do.)

-Chill people ( The place is pretty much run by teenagers and twenty years old except for maybe the manager and GM. You meet alot of really cool people, and make new friends and you automatically have something in common)

    - Keeps you busy ( If you're like me you can't be bored for more than 20 minutes at a time. Unless it's a weekday, a movie theater is generally busy, and it's usually in waves so you get fast then slow fast then slow)

    - Hiding Places ( Unlike a small place of work, you can like hide and take mini breaks in one of the theaters and pretend you're doing "sig checks" or checking the womens bathroom)

    * In addition you get free drinks/slushees

    Cons

-Favoritism & Supervisors ( There are favorites. In every AMC there are favorites. And unless you're not one of them, it really sucks and most liekly you will not advance in the company, or be invited to group work outings, and some of the supervisors can really be horrible)

-Advancement ( There's 0 to no chance of you advancing in the company. Must work full time. Don't get this job if you're expecting to advance alot. This was a good part-time job, definetly not a full time)

-Hours ( They cut you if it's not busy. You'll work weekends and holidays, yes even Christmas which SUCKS btw. Forget Friday Night Lights, you're working. Requesting days off are hard, even if you're sick they'll expect you to find someone to cover your shift.)

-Pay ( You don't get a raise unless you pass a review that happens like once a year where the observe you. The raise is generally 5-25 cents)

-Stubs ( They make you pitch it at e v e r y transaction. Pain in the butt)

    Advice to Management

    - Be a little kinder and understanding towards you're staff.
    - I understand that there alot of people working at a movie theater, but you have to do better than minimum wage when you've been working there for more than a year.
-LAY OFF THE STUBS (people get so annoyed)

I worked at AMC Entertainment part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Decent co-workers
Lots of "potential" to make money for a PT job as a college student
Flexible scheduling - but does result in "how flexible are YOU to work for AMC"
Lots of young people hired who want experience
Can be promoted quickly - but i wouldn't recommend a career
Free movies and discounts on the food (i still wouldn't eat it though)

    Cons

Communication is minimal - which is the main cause of all problems

Transient staff - Highest turnover you'll ever see - people will "quit" and come back, people who were fired even come back. Because so many people come and go - there's never an iron-fist of how to do things because nobody lasts more than 90 days

Favoritism and Nepotism do occur. Dumb staff really are promoted due to likability. Relationships run wild, brothers, sisters, and friends are hired. People get special treatment because they went to High School together. The politics there are more corrupt than the government.

Superior lack of professionalism - where swearing, degradation, and being just plain rude are the norm here

Complicated rules that are easily broken by the people who make them up

Unfair scheduling practices - you'll be forced to work during days you explicitly declared not-available (and some have walked out with less than they started)

Young managerial staff has little discipline - they act like your RA in a dorm - seemingly friendly, but just really a moron- highly emotional - little experience - react very poorly to disasters they cause

The building is broken - things break constantly - you'll know how to do your job 23 different ways because of everything that breaks-down -systems, electronics, the staff breaks down. There's always something you cannot do because it takes 6 weeks to recognize there's a problem and another 12 to get it fixed. Like I said "A M C - Always Missing Crap"

Wages - Because most of the associates have tip-based income, the money can come as a matter of just pure luck. Some associates will walk out with 300$ in a 5 hour period - others walk with 5$ from a 10 hour. Also, no raises for salaried staff unless you were promoted.

Bad guests are just the icing on the cake
There's plenty more cons - but i just can't type that much - don't work there

    Advice to Management

There isn't any advice - because you won't listen anyway
