Pros

The people seem to be genuine and friendly. They do have nice benefits and are good at training.

Cons

They are not open to change or 'how to do it better' ideas. They're happy with 'status quo' mentality.

Advice to Management

Ask questions of your employees concerning areas of improvement and concern.

I worked at AMETEK full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good people to work with (At least in the production side). Great benefits (at least 1 exception) for single people. Opportunity to interact with various cultures and learn multi-national business internally.

    Cons

Frustrating mid and top level management. Often contradictory to each other to subordinates. Benefits seemed great, except tuition reimbursement (contractual requirements and ability of manager to override reimbursement for courses not deemed to influence your daily duties (MBA programs include multitude of functions, not all align with current role within company).
Subordinates looked at as pawns, and a very top-heavy company seems to refuse to acknowledge support structure needed.

    Advice to Management

Reduce number of managers at all levels (you don't need a manager to supervise one person). Filter managerial prospects better to have those with ability to lead as managers (micromanagers tend to demean people). Evaluate internal candidates for growth potential, internal growth does not seem likely.

I have been working at AMETEK full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Once your company is acquired, say good-bye to at least 5% of your co-workers. This is good because it makes the office seem much less crowded. Pay cuts and other cost cutting measures will be necessary to achieve the new lofty profitability goals. This is also good, because workers really can have too much money. Don't worry, the explanations for the cost reductions will provide humor in an otherwise unhappy workplace.

You are free to leave as soon as you find a new job. Just don't let the door hit you in the back on your way out.

    Cons

Ametek is a profitable company that works very hard at keeping its operating expenses as low as possible. Unfortunately, employees are not a valued resource. Industry average wages will be replaced with below average wages. 40 hours a week is the minimum, unless you are a manager and then 35 hours is acceptable.

Layoffs and pay cuts are used to meet the unrealistic/inflated profitability goals. Of course morale suffers as a result of these cost cutting measures. There is a general lack of honesty throughout the entire Ametek organization. The corporate IT department thinks Lotus Notes is a state of the art email program.

    Advice to Management

You can only sh!t on your people for so long.
