Pros

Great pay and benefits. The work varies from job to job, so you're not necessarrily doing the same thing twice. Most of the people there are pretty secure with themselves as it is a union job, so there's not much of a I'm better than you mentality. I get to work on communication systems that serve lots of people. So it's a fairly unique job.

Cons

They pay you well so they expect a lot out of you. The job confrontsyou with different challenges that can be solved different ways. And I'm supposed to know everything. It can be a bit overwhelming.

Advice to Management

Look for the people who advance their knowledge outside of work and help them get to where they want to be in their careers.

    Pros

Working with some of the latest technologies.

    Cons

Micromanagement of professional and technical staff, including tracking of time spent booting up computer, picking up a hardcopy from the printer and time spent in the bathroom.

The company continually "nickle and dimes" it's employees.

People are very protective of their own turf, often making it difficult to get information on elements/systems, or coordination on projects.

    Advice to Management

If something wasn't broken (Cingular), don't try to fix it. You took a good company, and brought it down to the level of the rest of AT&T.

    Pros

Fairly secure job in current economic downturn and pay is not bad.

    Cons

Have to play the political game to be recognized.

    Advice to Management

Truly look at your people to determine their worth. Numbers on paper aren't everything. When help is needed and asked for fight for these needs with upper management to show you support them.
