Pros

Great way to start a sales/management position. Good for recent graduates or college students to acquire real world skills.

Cons

Goes with all entry level sales, time isn't too flexible on the weekends.

I worked at AT&T as a contractor (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great place to look for a better job while still making good money.
    Somewhat flexible hours.
    Telecommuting opportunities.

    Cons

    Impossible to get fired.
Impossible to get hired as an FTE.
Management doesn't want to deal with problems or issue people until other people or departments start to notice them.
Technology is old and outdated. More often than not, quick bandaids will be applied to fix technology issues 'for now'.
Money will be constantly wasted on projects that will go no where or eventually will be scraped.
Long hours, which include working weekends.
    Management refuses to pay overtime.
Attrition is high - good talent doesn't stay long once they learn how chaotic the work environment is.

    Advice to Management

Good talent needs to be hired as an FTE instead of being a multiple year contractor.

I have been working at AT&T full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Innovation, Employee Development, Flexibility, Service oriented, up to date in technology. Ample opportunity given for employees to learn and sufficient time is built in for assuming greater responsibilities.

    Cons

AT&T still continues to have a complex hierarchy with employee titles and positions changing too frequently. This gets even more complicated due to mergers and acquisitions. Even though the "One AT&T" initiative is in place, there are still numerous cultures operating in parallel within the company.

    Advice to Management

Horizontal movement for worthy employees should be made more accessible. Some of the initiatives are too broad and with too many levels of people involved for approvals, both resources and time are lost. More incentives for Management training will be helpful.
