I worked at AT&T full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

AT&T has resources to invest in product development. The company is commonly recognized and respected, which also helps to attract vendors, consultants and outside talent. Randall Stephenson has made some bold moves recently, trying for T-Mobile and then selling the yellow pages division. Right or wrong, the company has a clearer, more refined vision than in past years. AT&T is a mobility company.

Cons

The old-school bureaucracy is dying, but slowly. The company has long been a target of law suits, and over time has built up layer after layer of rules to protect from this cash drain. It can be slow and painful to get things accomplished.

Advice to Management

Start fresh with your Human Resources approach and possibly your people. HR does not seem to trust anyone, and often recommends the mediocre choice in candidate because the person seems "safe"
