I worked at AT&T full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

There is job security, the pay is more than most of the competitors offer, assistance with college tuition, and excellent medical, dental and vision benefits.

Cons

Although there are so many divisions within the company as a whole, it is very difficult to transfer from one department to another.

Advice to Management

Make career advancement more accessible to non-management.

I have been working at AT&T full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good benefits, generally good people working at AT&T. Can make it a long career if you keep your head down, do the things that are expected and be a decent person. AT&T is pretty hard to get fired from. Some reps have been there for many years at the same job.

    Cons

Constant direction change. Remarkably awful CRM tool. Quotas out of touch with reality. Limited earning potential with static account module. Not many opportunities for advancement. Most mid to upper management just move around laterally for years. Rarely do they move out of the business.

    Advice to Management

Rethink static modules. Simplify systems and processes.

    I worked at AT&T full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Had a lot of autonomy in many of my jobs. Received much training over the years. Had opportunities to transfer to desirable locations and change jobs. Pay and benefits were good. Met and worked with some excellent people and had great managers at times.

    Cons

The company retains some employees that would probably not last a week anywhere else, i.e. sociopaths, the severely mentally ill, malingerers, etc. and working with these people was very unpleasant at times. Worked for several managers who were highly unethical and incompetent yet held their jobs for many years. The current CEO vaporized over four billion dollars on the botched T-Mobile acquisition and amazingly has kept his job. The company monitors email and conference calls, also tracks employees with GPS, a definite Big Brother mentality. Metrics used to measure performance often have little or no connection to the actual quantity and quality of work performed by an individual or workgroup.
