I have been working at AT&T as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

The work is interesting and there are some great people to work with. It allows you to see different aspects of the advancing telecommunications business.

    Cons

You can be a contractor for up to 3 years, and still have the possibility of not getting hired. Processes are not well defined or implemented with customer in mind. It seems there is a level at management the believe failing is the way to show Senior or VP level management that something is "broken". Customers are not as valued as they should be for a company who focus should be customer satisfaction.

    Advice to Management

Practice what AT&T "preaches" in providing the best customer experience. Be open to new ways of doing business since the great Customer Service creates loyal customers, not resentful customers who just got a "good deal". This affects the employees who are customer orientated and are unable to truly provide the quality of support they deserve. Employees begin to feel defeated when they want to help the customer but their hands are tied. Step out of the office and into the shoes of those 3 steps down from you to see their view. "Undercover Boss" can be done without the cameras following you.

I have been working at AT&T full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The salary is competitive and you have many opportunities to move around.

    Cons

The managerial staff is hit or miss, some are 'micro managers'.

    Advice to Management

I believe you shoud teach the area managers & supervisors (especially if they've come from the bottom and moved up) that WE are still people. I've been here for 13 years and it seems to me that upper level management has a not-so-nice & arrogant attitude.
