I worked at AT&T full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

great benefits and salaries, room for advancement and relocation. easy to maintain life outside of work, and normal hours. never had to worry about pay or bonuses.

Cons

very political, and people not wanting to go above and beyond for fear of going outside the box. very slow to change or admit the need for change

Advice to Management

need to evolve out of the 20th century. Also worry less about their own backs and more about each others.

I have been working at AT&T as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Employees (including contractors) do get to potentially work with new or existing technologies and can thus definitely apply and/or expand skills in these technologies. Integration with contractors is relatively seamless (with a few exceptions) and there isn't much bureaucracy regarding the handling of outside contracts.

    Cons

Very political. Management tends to prefer favorites and thus can be very resistant to outside suggestions for change (improvements/efficiencies) to existing processes or new technologies. Groups are not always in sync with each other regarding the overall mission. And when combined with favoritism and politics, this can lead to intra-group conflicts and breakdowns in group communication. This can ultimately lead to employee dissatisfaction if the employee happens to be on the "losing side".

    Advice to Management

Be more open to outside ideas and processes from employees/contractors/consultants with previous experience outside of AT&T Wireless. Do not always treat these outside ideas/processes as a "threat" to the existing processes. Groups should be arranged so that they work together rather than against each other.

    I have been working at AT&T full-time

    Pros

Great pay, great benefits, and I had great coworkers.

    Cons

Not a lot of room for growth, and they're always cutting commissions.

    Advice to Management

It would help if you didn't micro manage :)
