I worked at AT&T full-time (More than 8 years)

Pros

AT&T hires great people & they work very hard to help employees balance work and life. Their telecommuting plan is outstanding the benefits are maneagable & the salary isright in line. They work very hard to hire within the organization

Cons

As is typical with large organizations you may have to leave and come back to keep your salary current with the industry. It is really hard to get in from the outside.

Advice to Management

in an effort to keep good employees they went througha period of promoting employees to managers so there is a large groups of managers that do not know how to manage and/or help employees grow their careers. There is an extremely high-level of contractors who have been with the company for a very long time there are lots of employees who would be qualififed and interested in those positions rather then being let go.

I have been working at AT&T full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Overall a good company. Some managers are flexible to allow employees to work from home full-time. Decent bonuses and benefits for non-union employees. AT&T services discounts as well as discounts on dining, education and other products and services.

    Cons

Depending on the organization, many IT support and business assurance positions are being outsourced. It recently happened to me.
Some salaries could be higher. Sometimes there is a lack of cooperation between internal IT and external vendors to work together to resolve an issue.
The SBS (Small Business Solutions) program implementation has a disaster and difficult to support from an IT perspective.
Employees no longer can purchase wireless equipment at full price minus a discount and must agree to a contract for discounted equipment prices.

I have been working at AT&T full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The mandatory overtime helps you feel better when you get home at 9pm and look at your paycheck. But that thrill wears off when you have to go right back in on Saturday at 7am.

    Cons

From the moment they hire you around $10~/hour, you are being taken advantage of. You will do stressful skilled work in various conditions for the entire day. Sent out of your turf of work and do their work as well, and then come back to your turf and finish your areas load. All the while trying to adhere to their 'numbers' of efficiency etc. But any and all gripes you encounter could be soothed if you started from the beginning with simply being paid more.

    Advice to Management

Hire more workers. Pay your employees more than the poverty level. Do those and your unreachable metrics might have a chance to be met, and maybe you might stop breeding the low morale that is all over the garages of the technicians.
