Pros

There are good opportunities for advancement and upwards (and lateral) movement if you are within the management ranks (up to 2nd line management, 3rd line and above positions are rarely filled without a person being groomed for that specific position). Benefits are decent compared to others.

Cons

If you are a union member, it is much harder to move into management (within the last 5 years) than it previously was. While benefits are good, costs have severely increased over the last several years. Sales and marketing personnel are the first to go with any round of layoffs (in most cases), not saying this is bad unless you are in Sales/Marketing. Senior leadership does not have an accurate view of how projects are going and seem to have no interest in the real story (until the problem is in the media).

Advice to Management

Recognition and morale programs need to be re-started to improve morale and increase productivity.

    Pros

    Reasonable pay and good working (environmental) conditions. Now--steady/secure job.It would be hard to get hurt on the job--unless a customer got into the office!!

    Cons

    Mass confusion between work groups. No long range planning and no idea how to achieve goals.Bosses are selected by body-type rather than by ability. Lazy bosses and uninformed and ill considered company planning. Extremely poor customer service--bordering on stupid in it's execution.The company is now treating employees like they have been treating their customers for years!!

    Advice to Management

    Listen to the troops in the trenches!! Increase customer service. Put people in charge that have some personality and ability. Put people in charge that can work harder than anyone else in the company. It is easier to respect leaders that are hard workers and that have interpersonal skills--rather than having a "PC" body type in charge!!

    Pros

    Some flexibility from management on location. Diverse workforce. Some managers are helpful, good mentors, interested in coaching their subordinates through the difficulties of working for AT&T. Others are in it for themselves and don't care WHAT happens as long as they are placating the managers above them.

    Cons

    Employees are worked to death. Off-shore contractors have manipulated management to the point of paralysis. One of my outstanding employees did the work of two persons in a level above her for two years and has yet to receive the title OR the pay of the previous worker. At one point I had more FTE working directly for me than any other manager and yet that wasn't recognized.

    Advice to Management

    Listen to your employees. Give them adequate opportunities for advancement.
