I worked at ATB Financial full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

ATB has a good vision for its future, although it can be very wishy-washy at times. The company wants to head in the right direction and has started implementing some unique transformations to do so. However, overall the execution of these transformations has been very poor. It is one thing to have change negatively affect your employees during its initial phases (growing pains if you will). But when your entire client-base becomes directly affected and frustrated by these changes, you have a systematic problem.

    Cons

I worked for ATB Financial during the main phase of its transition into "ATB 2.0". This most notably involved CORE and implementation of the new SAP banking system. The execution of this change was done very poorly - the decision to "go-live" , when and how this was executed, ended up doing both staff and customers a huge disservice. I left ATB Financial in late 2012 and there were still many business critical functions that were not working as intended. It was very clear that there was a huge disconnect between those implementing the new system, and the eventual end-users of the system. As an end-user (retail banker), it was evident right away that this software was not designed with the end-user's best interests in mind and failed to make our jobs easier or more efficient. In the end, it just seemed like a modernized looking platform relative to the old system, that somehow managed to be backward in it's functionality in some respects.

    Advice to Management

It'll probably never happen, but the Executive Team at ATB Financial needs to come clean about how poorly executed CORE was. From start to finish (well, it really hasn't finished yet). From going 200% over budget and becoming the global laughing stock of SAP implementation, Admit it was a disaster, and you just might earn some credibility and respect back from your employees and customers alike.
