Pros

The last day was so blissful.

Cons

Management culture is so morality reprehensible it will cause you stress that will adversity effect your health. I worked with Abbott for over 20 years. The first 10 were fine. The last 5 were hell. Management only displays the carrot and never the reward. Promotions are granted on the good old boy system of blind loyalty and competent employees are never considered. At this rate the company will be run by a herd of drooling idiots.

Advice to Management

Sell the diagnostic division so the management group will be required to reapply for their jobs.

    Approves of CEO

    Pros

There is a big, corporate campus feel to working at Abbott. There are a lot of benefits offered on site that are great for families in the area. Being a large company, there are many places where you could land. Miles White is an excellent CEO who can deliver on a strategic plan on a consistent basis.

    Cons

Abbott is a little slow to adapt to an ever-changing workplace. I felt very behind the times using older software tools that have replacements that are much more efficient that have been on the market for years. The culture is very hierarchical and feels very dated. The different groups have their own demands of shared services but there is no clear 'Global' ownership on many things. The Abbott Park campus is also very far from the city of Chicago, so you are limited in where you can reside if you do not want to handle the commute

    Advice to Management

Put more ownership and trust into the resources you manage. Go to lunch with the people you work with and get to know them, instead of hiding in the office or eating with other members of management. It's such a simple thing that could really change the culture.
