I have been working at Abbott Labs full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

Focus on the bottom line, take swift action to course-correct financially.

Cons

Unforgivable long-term tolerance of mediocrity, insane bureaucracy, and legendary hypocrisy.

Advice to Management

A total transformation is required. Have the courage to become nimble. Get R&D out of the dark ages. Think and act like a biotech if you can pull it off.

I worked at Abbott Labs as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Good benefits, if you aren't contracted.

    Cons

    - Contract-to-hire never pans out and you do the same, if not, more work than actual employees.
    - Layoffs are way too frequent

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees like humans, we are not as disposable as you treat us.

I worked at Abbott Labs full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Good Company name - looks good on resume.
    - Good variability of experiences - management welcomes rotations through the company.

    Cons

-Very political. Everything is based on getting an advocate for yourself and networking excessively.
-Your experience will depend on your manager, but that is pretty standard.
    -Rather conservative culture

    Advice to Management

Focus more on what a person can do, rather than who they know.
