I have been working at Abercrombie & Fitch full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

-Great ten-week Manager-in-Training program that teaches and fine-tunes basic management skills
    -Good benefits
-Work with great looking, aspirational associates

    Cons

-Extremely high management turnover due to lack of proper training and low pay
-Promotions to store manager are very political and not always given to competent assistant managers
    -Professional feedback is rare
    - Stores are not given enough hours to use to keep clothing presentations maintained throughout the day
    - Operational issues are ignored by Home Office and persist until they are at emergency level
    - We are given no extra time to train associates before throwing them out onto the sales floor.

    Advice to Management

Don't be so stingy with hours, and actually listen to the suggestions your management staff brings up! Promote managers to Store Manager level only if they have experience managing the same brand and same type of store (i.e. flagship, overnight, non-overnight). Implement a better standard for associate training, and maybe consider promoting sales associates to management even if they do not have their four year degree, because to be honest, the way A&F wants their stores managed does not require much ingenuity or creativity, but merely knowing the company standard.

I have been working at Abercrombie & Fitch part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - If you look good and are outgoing it is really easy to get hired.
    - A feel good job because many of the people who walk in are intimidated by you.
    - You get to be around attractive and interesting people.
    - Make your own schedule really, they don't mind if you can't make it in one day or another.

    Cons

    - Minimum wage
    - Have to wear clothes consistent with "The Look Policy", in other words something that is current season. End up blowing a large portion of salary on clothing. A&F says they don't require you to wear their clothes. That's a lie.
    - If you are in the front area you have to stay there and say stupid taglines within 15 seconds of a customer walking in/out. You also end up folding and refolding already perfect piles of clothing endlessly.
    - Same annoying soundtrack repeats the whole season.
    - The smell clings to you.
    - No training. When a customer asks for help you have no idea; I just give them some random bs.
    - Get tired of fake smiling all the time.

    Advice to Management

Maybe somebody above you requires you to be super anal about dress code and folding clothing. I don't know. All I do know is that it's really annoying to be called out for super small nitpicky stuff. Please be more understanding. Obviously employees can be replaced easily at Abercrombie but I would like some respect.
