I have been working at Abercrombie & Fitch full-time

Pros

- good benefits - medical, dental, vision, 401k
- friendly co-workers and supervisors/managers (in the main)
- soft attendance policy IMO. You have to work hard to get fired for poor attendance.
- discount at AF, Hollister, Gilly Hicks, and kids stores
- recently went to a four day workweek (10 hr. shifts), which gives you a three day weekend
- on campus gym
- I've seen complaints about the home office HR, but the HR team that handles the distribution centers is great, very helpful and responsive in my experience

Cons

- They've started farming out a lot of work to a temp agency, which keeps their costs down and our wages low
- high supervisor turnover rate. My supervisors have lasted, on average, less than a year before they quit or are rotated out. They rotate supervisors constantly, and many don't last very long because of the hours. This is bad when it comes to getting your annual reviews and raises. It also means you often know more about your department than your supervisor.
- Senior management. They tried to consolidate everything into one DC, encountered all kinds of problems, and the hourly employees paid for it. The difficulties meant we lost our summer (2012), working six days a week for nine straight weeks. The point man on the consolidation "left" the company, and they decided to keep both distribution centers.
- During the Christmas season and summer you will be working a lot of OT weekends. So if you like spending time with friends and family during the holidays or those summer weekend nights, forget about it
- low low low pay. The starting wage when I was hired many years ago was $9.30/hr. It's still $9.30/hr. Warehouses all over central Ohio have raised their base pay, but not AF.
- mind numbingly repetitive job no matter what department you're in
- dirty and very noisy work environment. Lots of atmospheric particulate matter - you blow your nose at the end of an 11 hour shift and the discharge is black
- The jobs I've had have been physically demanding, and after so many years you are worn out.
- I work only in the distribution centers, but from what I've seen of the corporate home office (HO), they hire relatively young and good looking people, work them until they burn out and leave, then replace them with someone else relatively young and good looking, then repeat. They have a high turnover rate. The CEO has said he likes to hire employees close to the age of their target customer, and the grueling hours the HO employees work seem to be part of the strategy to keep a young work force. Either that or a young HO work force is an unintended consequence of the hours they are expected to work. The HO people that I've encountered have all been very nice.

Advice to Management

less supervisor rotation, across the board rate raise is long overdue especially considering the fluid production standards

I worked at Abercrombie & Fitch full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The job offers good benefits and compensation. The Home Office campus is great. After training, given lots of responsibility right away.

    Cons

Mobility is based on availability only, at least in department I was in. Not too much bad to say about the company, enjoyed it there.
