I worked at Abrazo Community Health Network full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

Some of the nurses and ancillary staff are well educated, well trained, and warm, friendly people. They are in the minority, however. Several nurses continue working there just to reach retirement and to be fully vested. I hated to see them crying in the lounge They finally opened the kitchen at night so night staff could have a meal. Hopefully, Tenet can create a sensible, caring, and rewarding environment.

Cons

Being short staffed was a danger to the doctors, nurses, and most of all, the patients. Patients fell on a regular basis, incurring new or further injuries. Nurses were not given the opportunity to learn about new equipment in a timely manner, wasting funds by letting new equipment sit in a corner and not providing optimal care for patients. There was a great deal of "playing favorites" between mid management and nursing staff. At the time, the best way to get a good review was to walk into your manager's office with cookies and coffee and tell her how wonderful she was. Gossip ran rampant, and many innocent people were hurt. Cliques ran several units, and if you didn't "belong" life there was miserable. One new manager came into work, closed the door to her office, and we never saw her again!

Advice to Management

Hopefully, Tenet will start by realizing the staff is made up of PEOPLE. Staff deserves a pat on the back, a "thank you", a real raise that allows staff to live within the standard of living, and basic human compassion. Even now, unqualified people are being paid several thousand dollars more per year as managers, while the people who know how to do the job, and are doing it well, are being told,"Sorry, you've reached the maximum salary". A ceiling on salaries is ridiculous if management wants to retain intelligent, competent staff! Keep buying those other hospitals, just remember you need people to work in them! Look at the expressions on the faces of your staff at the end of a shift. If you're not seeing exhaustion, frustration, and disappointment, someone turned off the lights!

    Pros

    Worked at the CBO regional office. Most of the non exempt employees are nice and hardworking. They have good coffee in the employee lunchroom.

    Cons

    Most of the management are new in their position and not trained to lead. There's no accountability because they are scared they will lose their new position. They expect you to get your work done in 8hrs even if systems didn't work and short on staff. Awful manager keeps implementing what she learned from seminars but not applying it to herself. She thinks everyone is stupid but only lets her talk because whatever they do will be used against them.HR works for management only. THE PAY IS NOT GOOD.

    Advice to Management

    Stop taking credit for the hard work of your non exempt employees. Take accountability and protect your employees. Practice humility and be a mentor. Stop writing up your employees so they can't transfer. Don't make your office just for telling them how bad they too. Compliment each one for good work every now and then.

    Pros

    Good people recruited but no one is developed or retained.

    Cons

    Turnover among system and facility leadership was 60% in 1 1/2 years. No latitude at the health system to develop into a meaningful structure. No control of capital. Leaders spend the majority of time trying to figure out what happened in order to appear knowledgable for their calls to corporate. No identity as a health system, no planning or engaging in strategic thinking. The most dysfunctional environment of which I have been a part. This is all meant to be descriptive not mean spirited. All of the people I worked with were well intentioned not cut throat.

    Advice to Management

    Corporate needs to think why they have a regional office. It offers little to know value. The hospitals do not exist in any meaningful way that indicate a system exists, except for maybe purchasing power for medical supplies.
