Pros

employment.
okay benefits
flexible
growth
easy for yes men

Cons

Cliques. . Fit in quickly or you will not advance. Best qualified can be down played in favor of lesser qualified but in the clique player.
Human resources bows down to those in charge so their job is to cover up and create smoke and mirrors that can prevent the best qualified from succeeding. Succession planning is a tool that can qualify you or disqualify one for promotion but not used as most companies would use. Nothing is based on actual information that can be verified. Those chosen to succeed are placed in positions long before the interview process. Interview process is just for show as decisions have already been made.
RVPs need to go in favor of new unbiased management.

Advice to Management

Bring in new upper leadership from the outside as those current corrupt leaders just keep putting those in their cliques in key positions.

I worked at Academy Sports & Outdoors full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Discount. Working with other employees who don't slack off. If you get lucky and get your name drawn from a monthly employee compliments customer box and winning a gift card of $15 value (not sure if all stores did that). If you're full time the health benefits are good. Requesting time off within 2 weeks and you'll most likely get it unless it's some Holiday. Getting free meals in the employee break room on Thanksgiving and Christmas. Sometimes on rare occasion an employee would bring a nice home baked meal or dessert for everyone to enjoy. If you enjoy the outdoors it is a fun place to work.

    Cons

After working there for 5 years the discount went from 25% to 20%. Also I only got a 25 cent raise in 5+ years and I a hard worker. As always there is favoritism with the managers. Kiss butt and play nice if you want to be good with them. Not being able to move up in the company. The drama that some employees like to gossip about. Just don't expect to move up much or much hourly pay at that.

    Advice to Management

Keep more of an eye out on the slacker employees (especially the young and new employees). Think twice before making certain employees Team Leads or Managers in Training. Change the music in the store up, the same ole playlist gets so tiring after hearing for the 100th time. Can you seriously look into hiring better security in the store (perhaps one of those guys who walks around in plain clothes looking for shoplifters), I swear so much merchandise was stolen daily (I'd call and tell a manager there was a suspicious customer and they'd "keep an eye on them", but then when the shoplifter got to the door and out of it they can't chase them or anything. There needs to be a better system with all of that. Can you just listen to your employees, take into consideration what they have to say, and don't be afraid to say "Good Job!" or something like that.

    Pros

Great nice company with very nice people and great deals. Treated me well and had decent pay for part time job.

    Cons

Would schedule you 30-40 hours or 39 hours as a part time person, and would cut your hours a lot

    Advice to Management

Give members more training and teach them about products more.
