Pros

Sink or swim environment allows you to maneuver your job to take on ad hoc opportunities at will.

Cons

Bizarre management structure leads to no one wanting to take on to much responsibility (i.e, liability) or to effect the change needed there.

Advice to Management

Put some structure and oversight into place.

I worked at Acadian Asset Management full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Management really cares about developing employees, both personally and professionally
    - Open and welcoming learning environment where people are encouraged to learn for the sake of it, not pressured to stay in lane
    - Kind and compassionate coworkers, most with a solid sense of humor
    - Colleagues have a genuine interest in quantitative investments and coding
    - Lots of company, department, and team social events with great food and drink. Did I mention the time they took everyone and their families one of the swankiest ski resorts in northern Vermont? They don't mess around. They want you to be colleagues and friends across the company, and they make it fun and tasty!

    Cons

-As with any finance company, there are those who engage in ego wrestling matches and make their advances at others' expense
-Some people forget that it is small shop, team effort that makes Acadian special and try to steer the company in the direction of becoming just another Boston Brahmin investment company

    Advice to Management

Stay Acadian. Don't be like the rest of these Boston finance/investment companies. You do you.

I worked at Acadian Asset Management as an intern

    Pros

Reputable company; good reputation in investment industry

    Cons

Interns are VERY rarely given full time return offers; do not have any expectation going in!
Low pay compared to alot of other investment managers in area.
Interns are essentially used as cheap labor and aren't viewed as long term potential; don't be blinded by intern job postings on their career page

    Advice to Management

Current internship program is not conducive for career planning.
Take an interest in investing more in your employees
Actually give strong interns full time offers or just don't hire interns in the first place
