I worked at Active Network full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

Really fun people work here. The environment used to be fun, unfortunately that is leaving quickly. You will still be able to make some really good friends.

Cons

Seemingly random and sweeping firings happen all the time. You must take an assessment test to even be considered, but no one knows how it is scored. HR people don't know how it works either so DON'T take their advice. Many good new hires turned away for 'failing' this test. I'm sure it will get Active into hot water soon. (504 anyone?)

You feel very disposable and it is hard if not impossible to 'climb the latter'. If they start talking of 'opportunities' just know that is a key word for going nowhere. The office is crowded with new hires, and is noisy. HR department is horrible and will not help you, as they only seem to care about recruiting and firing people.

Advice to Management

Stop treating good hardworking people like children. Stop using vague business lingo. (Everyone hates that lingo BS.) Just tone down the corporate everything. Companies don't work like that anymore. There are many, MANY other places to work that are much more hospitable and offer a work/life/respect balance.

    Pros

Perks like gear discounts, registration discounts, ability to work remotely

    Cons

Recent purchase by venture capital company has changed the "team oriented company" to a "grow faster, make money faster" type company. No regard for individuals any longer.

    Advice to Management

Take a step back and look for value in employess

I have been working at Active Network full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Company offers a very employee friendly environment. Even with all the drama over the last year or so one thing is constant, do you job and work hard and you can write your own story. ACTIVE offers one of the most attainable commission structures in the industry and ACTIVEx is an amazing benefit. Arch and his team take employee empowerment to the next level. If you like to work hard you can be a superstar at ACTIVE and it is for a good mission.

    Cons

ACTIVE leaving San Diego has left many without the career they had planned for. Many of the staff have taken advantage of a great company culture for years and not given back as much as they should have. It would have been nice to see ACTIVE be profitable in SD so they would not have had to relocate.

    Advice to Management

Continued transparency will earn employee respect. Do not focus on only being a profitable software company, continue to be a lifestyle company mixed with profitably!
