    Pros

    -Good pay
    -Room for advancement
    -Great training and development opportunities

    Cons

Upper management can't get its act together and that has serious ramifications for staff

    Advice to Management

Choose a strategic vision and stick with it. Our long term department goals changed dramatically times while I worked there. My department degenerated from the tip top of its industry to sham of its former self. While I was very satisfied with my supervisors and (up to and including the manager), everyone above him had no concept of how the public safety department works. Yet they did not hesitate to hand out directives that undermined our ability to do our job. Furthermore, rather than heed the advice of the department's leadership team, which have decades of law enforcement experience and are leaders in the industry, the "powers that be" elected to bring in a consultant who has no background in law enforcement or security. The result was the constant undermining of our staff which hindered our ability to protect the medical center and it's staff.

    Pros

Very flexible schedule, overtime if needed.

    Cons

The culture of the organization can be negative, a lot of employees won't respect you if their title is above yours. You have to have tough skin to work here.

    Advice to Management

    Respect your employees.
