I worked at Aetna full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Telecommuting, PTO, healthy lifestyle compensation, very supportive of alternative lifestyles, promotes furthering education, friendly peers.

    Cons

Limited mobility, very low salaries for majority of workers, bonuses/raises do not exist, revamping benefits and taking more and more away, for a health insurance company the benefits are beyond ridiculous, no incentive to stay til retirement (if you're given the opportunity prior to job elimination), many co-workers push off work on everyone else. Mid-level managers are useless.

    Advice to Management

Seriously consider competitive pay and better health benefits. You're a health insurance company and don't support your own employees by providing decent plan options but yet want them to cater to plan sponsors who do.

I have been working at Aetna full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Decent pay, ok benefits, good amount of vacation time, great co-workers.

    Cons

Not sure about other areas, but in regional business, we've had to worry about layoffs every year. Aetna is a very top heavy company with probably hundreds of VP's, directors and heads of departments, yet can't manage to save jobs for front line staff when they need to cut costs. I've noticed satisfaction with the company depends on whether you work in a large or small office. If you're in a small office, you tend to be unimportant to Aetna.

    Advice to Management

Live by the Aetna Way values you espouse, and apply it to employees. None of Aetna's core values have ever stated anything about treating your employees well and with respect.
