I have been working at Afirm as a contractor

Pros

Schedule your own work. No set Hours. Independent Environment.
Great Job for "Stay at Homes" or "Retirees" looking for some "Get out of the house time".
Occasionally meet colorful people in stimulating situations. No experience required.

Cons

Start up costs are high compared to return. Compension can be changed at anytime. Inconsistant work. Occasionally find yourself in potentially hazardous situations. Area of responsibility is 50 mile radius in a straight line which can lend to extented travel times, expense, and highway accident exposer. Leadership appears to believe in the mentality that software can replace representrative experience and talent.

    Pros

    Exellent training but quite lengthy
    A top quality audit software
    Make your own schedule

    Cons

Answered an ad for a premium auditor in the city where I live. Too long of a training process for experienced auditors. Upon completion of training it was learned there was no work in the area that was advertised. Home office staff seem to have an "oh well" attitude conserning the lack of work. Regional manager is curt and arrogant.

    Advice to Management

    Stop the false advertising

I have been working at Afirm full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The culture is excellent and most employees are happy. They offer decent training, tuition assistance, and decent benefits. Being a part of the Kaufman Financial Group and Burns & Wilcox, there is a strong potential for company growth.

    Cons

Salaries for employees are below average. Broker partners are underpaid and as an employee, I hear complaints about their compensation frequently. The turnover rate of broker partners is extremely high. The company suffers a severe nepotism problem with regards to permanent employment and there are many individuals that are family or friends that hold positions much higher than they are qualified to hold.

    Advice to Management

Hire individuals based on their qualifications, not because of your loyalty to your family or current employees. Increase prices to clients in order to provide adequate compensation to both the field workers and employees. By not being able to compensate experienced field workers, it costs a lot of time, effort, and money recruiting and training replacements. Without the field workers US-Reports would be able to produce nothing. Compensate current employees with higher wages and annual pay raises to be able to maintain good quality staff. Your ability to branch out and grow are hindered by charging lower than industry rates for your services. Your reputation within the industry is plagued with being a company to go to if you need a cheap low quality report.
