I have been working at Airborne Systems North America full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

There are a few genuinely good people at this company. Some product lines are quite unique and the work can be interesting.

Cons

I'm an employee in very good standing here and I realize what I'm about to say will make me sound disgruntled but the truth is....

Very poorly developed company processes and procedures result in regular snafu's. Getting inventory moved requires an act of God, manufacturing/engineering communication is horrendous (by design) and there is no motivation to improve the scenario because upper management is consumed with profit margin and doesn’t want to "rock the boat".

Combine this environment with a very punitive "kick down - kiss up" management style at the executive level and basically the staff becomes the scapegoat for the crisis of the day....most days. It's all about who's to blame and never about isolating the cause and correcting it so the scenario doesn’t repeat. Week after week the same issues occur as a result of broken internal systems but there is zero desire (or funding) made available to fix things in spite of very healthy profits.

Advice to Management

Focus on fixing your internal systems because when the current boom in business wanes, you won't be able to absorb inefficient operating practices by virtue of a high profit margin.

    Pros

The company is part of a huge company is always being sold, so there are no real rules to follow. There isn't much formality to any job, but the place is run like a sweat shop factory, but for engineers. Since management doesn't know what is going on there is no real scrutiny on what people do. It really is difficult to find any real pros to the company but the environment there is awful. All the focus is short term with no long term plan or goals.

    Cons

Professional degreed salaried employees are treated like day laborers working in a field with punch in and out times as well as lunch times and no flexibility. Management is completely out of touch with both what happens and with the outside world. Although record profits are made, salaries are at record low and the attrition is horrendous. No one seems to last more than two years unless they have nowhere else to go, and that means the ones who are left are so out of industry they are useless. Management actually has people do bed checks to make sure employees are at their chair throughout the day; 7:30, 12, 1, and 5:30 to see if you are trying to leave a minute early or get in a minute late. There is no flexibility but a huge double standard for favored employees. However, you do not become favored through hard work, but through socializing with the managers. If you do that, you get a separate set of rules that others do not get to have. Most of the focus is to just get by with no emphasis whatsoever on training or reinvesting in the company or people because as they harp on, the place is always for sale.

    Advice to Management

Begin by providing better salaries and treat the employees with more dignity and respect. You are climbing on their backs and you need to respect their contributions. Stop looking for the slightest negative and try some actual positivity. Reinvest in the place and stop being cheap, it will kill the place in the long term. Also, stop using the same tired chart over and over.

    Pros

Exciting product line. Interesting people. Some of the people truly care. You can usually spot them with their head down, life drained.

    Cons

Incompetent upper management. Absolutely no room for growth. Zero employee development. This company is run by Finance overlords. Avoid it like the plague!!!

    Advice to Management

Start firing people at the top of the salary heap and don't stop until you've reached the shop floor.
