    Great Airline

    Pros

Good benefits and pay raises, corporate culture is very solid for certain work groups. Fallen soldier program is the best there is. No

    Cons

Local management/leadership very hands off, employees not held accountable for their actions (due to union "protection"), don't enforce policies and procedures as they should. Flight routing is weak compared to competing airlines. Recently got rid of their A320 fleet which is a safe and reliable airframe. Alaska doesn't play to win, they play not to lose.

    Friendly people, volatile work environment

    Pros

Teammates were the best I've had in a long time. Pair programming focus. Practicing TDD. Excellent PR Reviews. Positive feedback & generally psychologically safe environment. Promotes from within. Annual salary review process with possible raises. Free flights on all Alaska planes (as Standby only).

    Cons

Management has said on more than one occasion how little their contracting workforce is to them, and openly discussed laying off their contractors in a meeting open to all staff. Generally found executive leadership to be two faced; kind in person, but non-people focused in practice. Design department is underwater with little to no guidance - we built most of our own mocks and had to go in and fix a lot of things later when design finally got back to us. Brand new design system that was never built with or consulted by potential design system users; incredibly difficult to install, implement, and utilize. Little to no ability to update, change, or enhance design system and no staff to the project to assist with impending deadlines. My team specifically has been without a direct manager for over 4 months, and the interim manager they put in place has terrible leadership qualities. Can't communicate without berating, publicly shaming people's code & decisions (with no pretext), and is making large team-altering decisions without consulting anyone other than executive leadership. Turned a beautiful, safe team environment into a volatile, egg-shell stepping space.
