Pros

Amazing children and families Being able to design your own programmes to run in schools Great aims of the charity Seems like operations of other teams than delivery might be better and office staff are really nice

Cons

I was unhappy working here. Senior managers in the delivery team are out of touch with the realities of the link worker role. Very target and deadline focussed. Senior managers are critical but dont acknowlede the good things you are doing in your job and dont listen to other opinions. Everyone dreads the 1 on 1 coffees. When there is feedback given senior managers are dismissive and do not take this on board but dismiss it as being just individuals. People are worried about giving feedback because it will hurt their career at WLZ. Middle managers try their best but advice from the top is confusing and contradictory and out of touch with what its like in schools and it can be really difficult to find out answers to questions as information is inconsistent on the drive. Many link workers feel they need more training on what they actually do in their jobs but lots of training from external organisations is very mixed in quality. Some rules are inflexible and WLZ doesnt follow through on promises it makes to staff team so its hard to trust them

Thank you for your review. We are really sorry to hear that you were unhappy working with West London Zone. We would really appreciate an opportunity to have a confidential conversation with you to get a bit more insight into your experience and to guide us in our continuous journey on how to make West London Zone a great place to work, and improve our impact with children and young people in our community. We are continuously working on initiatives to help us improve our employee experience and constructive feedback enables us to do this better. Based on responses to our annual employee engagement survey last year, a key focus this year is improving how we listen, learn and translate feedback into action. We have recently launched regular pulse surveys that will enable us to track how employees are feeling, their level of engagement with their work and with West London Zone as an organisation. Listening to this regular feedback all year round, will help us identify engagement trends and create visible and relevant action plans at individual team levels, as needed. The People and Culture team are also focusing on the development of a robust People Business Partnering model to better support managers at all levels across the organisation for a better employee experience. Please kindly get in touch with the People and Culture Director to have a confidential conversation about your experience, as it might enable us to improve the experience for other employees too.
