Pros

Allstate allows you to maintain a good Work Life balance. They have a day care, hairdresser, oil changes on campus, flexible work hours and allow telecommuting.
The people that work at Allstate tend to be good in nature. They participate in volunteering, charities, but most importantly, you can make good friends.
Health benefits are good specially for pregnant women. They have a profit sharing program that tends to be very good.
The company is good to the employees.
Due to the size of the company, you can find different things to do within. You are likely to change paths and try different things.

Cons

Allstate is too conservative and old school. The systems are old and hard to replace as they were build with old technology in mind and the leaders are not willing to put the money to be innovative and competitive.
Too much bureaucracy and inefficiency - There are too many Managers and very few people who do the work. Too many processes exist and get on the way of doing your job. Meetings are inefficient and it is hard to get a consistent decision fro leadership.
Low salaries - Allstate does not compete on salary. Also, a position change does not mean your salary gets adjusted. If you change to a position where you should be making more, you don't get a raise. Viceversa, if you do something that pays less, you still get the higher pay.

Advice to Management

the processes are hurting us... have 1 leader per project and everyone report to him.

    Pros

It's a large company, so if you are mobile you may have a lot of opportunity. You may have the ability to go to different states or try different jobs within the company. There is also a sense of stablity since it's a large company,

    Cons

The system is designed to hinder and not help. Management does not listen to the employees. They waste employees' time with surveys that they seem not to pay attention to. Certain regions and departments provide little to no growth opportunity. So you may get stuck in a position. An example would be the claims department, unless you are mobile. And each office seems to be managed differently. Some offices are way more lax then others. The pay is horrible. They pay the new claims employees under 40k, but want you to have a degree and work over 40 hours/week. Really does not seem fair. And the raises in our office at least are the same for mostly every one. Too much busy work, i.e. list and emails.

    Advice to Management

Pay your "lower level" employees a decent wage and hire enough people to manage the work load. If your people are happy, then your customer's will be happy. That's how you make money and become successful!

    Pros

As an independent contractor with Allstate, you have opportunity for growth and rewards comensurate with your individual efforts.

    Cons

Being captive, you have to work around the competitive positions in the products you have to sell. If a particular line is not priced correctly, you will have a very difficult time selling it and growing your book.

    Advice to Management

Listen more to agents in the field. They really do bleed "Allstate Blue" and want this company to be the BEST in America. Shareholders are important but we know the customers like no one else. Give us competitive products to sell and then get out of our way. Agents built this company for over 75 years and will continue to do so. It is a great company, but we are a bit off course at the present.
