Pros

Plenty of opportunities to move laterally.

Cons

Not much opportunity for upward mobility

    Pros

    Brand is #1. Work life balance. New culture work is helpful to holding Sr leaders more accountable for their decsions, employee development and results. Financially solid. New President seems to understand how to turn the company around.

    The CEO has done a nice job managing the investment portfolio and the Company has stayed strong throughout the recession.

    Cons

    Sr leaders have have made some strategic blunders in the past 10 years. It will be interesting to see if new President <Matt Winter>, can successfully execute on his vision and strategies.

    By the way, if you are a minority, specifically Hispanic or Afro American, you will not go past a certain level in the Company, The Company is dominated by White Sr leaders and does not seem to care about diversity in relation to the SR leadership ranks.

    We have been going through a period of hiring Sr leaders from the outside who look great on paper but they have not been successful. The ones that have been successful have come with good industry experience. A Northwestern MBA and a few years with a consultant firm does not translate into success at a Company like Allstate despite the CEOs best wishes.

    Technology is inefficient and outdated. The Company needs to invest heavily in upgrading infrastructure. While they say they encourage innovation, there is little budget and tolerance for testing and devolving cutting edge solutions.

    Advice to Management

    1. Give Matt Winter the authority to do what he says he wants to do.
    2. Fix your agency relationships. if necessary consider a bigger independent agent footprint
    3. Invest in technology and innovation.
    4. Promote from inside or from the industry
