I worked at Allstate full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good place to work, job assignments are for the most part challenging. Pay is okay, not great but not horrible.

    Cons

Don't get too comfortable, no matter how good of a job you're doing. Layoffs are "random" and often. And by "random", I mean that if your age and years of service line up so that you're pegged as a legacy risk, watch out. You've got an actuarial bullseye on your head. Sure, they'll throw in a random underperforming employee whose numbers don't match up to justify their decision in court, but it's painfully obvious as to how their victims are chosen.

    Advice to Management

Quit treating your employees as a commodity. Train and advance employees based on what they know versus who they know. You'll get further ahead in the insurance race by treating your employees fairly and by promoting the right people for the right job = people who have the company's and insured's best interest at heart. Too many major decisions are based on personal agendas.

    Pros

There are some corporate benefits and opportunity to move within.

    Cons

Each group has a different culture and it's like working at a different company depending on where you are.
