I have been working at Allstate full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good people, with a good mix of longer term employees and new blood. Pay and perks are generally good. Company trains employees well and has strong processes. Lots of talented people throughout the company. Strong culture of volunteerism and community involvement.

    Cons

At times senior management demonstrates a short term view typical of a publicly traded company. That can cause overreaction to challenges. Expense cutting measures not always wisely targeted.

I worked at Allstate full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Pros:
    Work from home
    Flexible Hours
    Decent starting salary
    Laid Back
    Gorgeous Campus
    Great Benefits

    Cons

As much as I enjoyed my time at the company, their are some major changes which are needed if they want to retain talent. Allstate operates much like a union shop where you progress in your career through time with the company and personal connections. I agree that you should reward those who are loyal to the company, but career advancement should rest upon what you know, dedication, and hopefully at a minimum who you know. Allstate had technology "architects" who were not certified, didn't understand technology, and simply got the position by staying there 20 years. I am not saying that all of their employees are not qualified, many of them are but you can easily point out the "fake it till you make it" individuals.

    Advice to Management

REWORK HOW YOU RATE YOUR EMPLOYEES!

Allstate currently has an arena type of process where 30 managers will get together and discuss your merits and work based upon "a scorecard / baseball card." This card has your photo and a few highlights, which doesn't sound bad at first until you realize what this process is. You have 27-28 individuals who you have never met, worked with, interacted with, etc judging whether you advance in your career and the raise you should receive based upon a ten point list and photo.
