Pros

The people are very friendly and helpful. A young engineering work force that is very social. The company actually promotes social gatherings and sponsors several sporting teams. Pay is average for industry, but the benefits for full time employees are above average. There are plenty of opportunities to dive in and get your hands dirty.

Cons

Takes time to acclimate to the industry and jargon used in everyday conversation. Training is mainly trial by fire which can be difficult for some. Gathering information for projects can be difficult because most employees keep a fairly busy schedule. Weekly and daily presentations can get stale.

Advice to Management

Develop a comprehensive training program to properly expose new employees to the industry and the culture of Altec.

    Pros

Altec has a value system that shows what is important to them and they stick by it: Customer first, Enjoyment of work, Family, Financial stability, Integrity, People are our greatest strength, Quality, Spiritual development, and Teamwork.

    Cons

A lot of focus on employees who have been here for a long period of time. This causes the older employees to think that Altec owes them something. Many time you can find newer hourly employees that have a higher level of performace then older hourly employees.

    Advice to Management

Make it easier to remove poor performers and have better processes for replacing employees.

I worked at Altec Industries full-time

    Pros

Working out in the field pays a lot of money and comes with a lot of over time.

    Cons

Working out in the field, you are expected to work over time. You are also expected to do a lot of paperwork that goes beyond the 30 minutes you are paid for each day. Also, supervisors are underpaid, but they are also often underqualified.
NO time for for family if you are a supervisor or you work out in the field. Lots of traveling.

    Advice to Management

Don't tell your employees that they are easily replaceable and are just a number. Listen to your employees. They do matter!
