I have been working at Amazon as an intern (Less than a year)

Pros

Some of the biggest pros:

1) Streamlined development culture across the company.
2) Very supportive team mates who helped constantly raise the bar by asking the right questions and putting the foot down at the right time.
3) Lot of opportunities to learn by way of tech talks and stuff.
4) Open policy for interns to move to teams of their choice.
5) Strictly enforced code review process
6) Good pay

Cons

Some of the minor downsides:

1) It takes a ton of meetings to reach consensus on something. Sometimes, with a lot of digression and emphasis on minor details.
2) No freebies

Advice to Management

Not in the league to advice upper management yet.

    I have been working at Amazon full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Work with lots of talented individuals on products that are used by millions of people
    Path for promotion as an individual contributor

    Cons

    Easy to get stuck doing something you don't like
    Managers like to micromanage
    Oncall can be very frequent
    Hours can be very long
    Company very frugal with perks
    Projects are frequently planned to force developers to work overtime to meet goals
    Managers can be too focused on looking like they are working hard instead of delivering results

    Advice to Management

    Trust engineers to deliver solutions to problems

    Rapidly growing company with great opportunities for advancement and relocation.
    Creativity and problem solving heavily encouraged - see a problem and implement a possible solution same day.
    Committed to hiring the best - everyone working there is results driven and hungry to succeed.

    Cons

    Long hours in distribution center environment can wear on your body if you do not properly stretch and eat to accommodate the daily tasks of the job.
