I have been working at Amazon full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The company takes bottom-up ideas very seriously. Developer has a lot of freedom to design products and the release cycle is super fast. People are very nice and professional. The technology used for development is top of the line.

    Cons

Sometimes oncall is stressing for new SDEs.

    Pros

Great company to hone your analytic abilities and become a wiz at gathering and analyzing data

    Cons

Despite casual dress codes and pets in the office, the atmosphere feels unfriendly, disconnected, and aggressive at times. Negative feedback is given often, positive feedback is rare. I sat within 15 feet of everyone in my group (8 people), and it is often silent through much of the day, without "hellos" or "good mornings".

    Advice to Management

Positive reinforcement is a lot more motivating then negative feedback. Set reasonable expectations from the beginning and don't pile on more non-critical tasks after you've agreed on what is expected.
