No opinion of CEO

I worked at Amazon full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

People that know what they're doing. Lots of interesting projects floating around.

Cons

Constant pressure to get more done faster. Oncall shifts. Being pulled in different directions by different projects. Constantly having to trouble shoot systems you don't fully understand without time to learn it.

Advice to Management

They're a natural way developers communicate and work with each other when they're collaborating on a project. Don't break that up because someone gave you a deadline.

I worked at Amazon full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

You can say you have a job.

    Cons

Hot in summer, cold in winter, unrealistic production goals that are subject to change at any moment. Managers either drink the Amazon Kool-Aid, or are terminated. The only way to tolerate working for these people is to buy into their program totally, keep your mouth shut, and work your a>> off. Do not anticipate any advancement whatsoever, unless you are a real good friend of someone in management.

    Advice to Management

Get real. People are human beings, not dogs or robots, and would appreciate being treated with respect.
