I worked at Amazon as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

4 day work week with possible overtime.

    Cons

Where to Start! Managers have no idea how to run a business or warehouse. When they hire, they will bait and switch you and churn temp employees. No professionalism or care for employees. No training and you better know what you are doing on day one or they will begin to fire you. HR office is the worst I have ever seen. There is no communication or care for anything. Senior managers say they listen and care for people only to flat out lie to peoples faces. Pay is near the bottom for what you will be doing and getting converted to full time is next to impossible. They actually will from time to time make you come in and work mandatory overtime. Favortism and cronyism shown every department. The processes make no sense have nothing to do with making profits for the warehouse. Constantly monitored by a scanner and measured by both rate and quality. You will only get 2 15 minute breaks and a 30 minute lunch break, and if you go over, you will be written up.

Trust me, there is nothing about this place that is good. It is a complete joke!

    Advice to Management

You say you are innovative, hire the best people, train the best people, and unafraid. You are neither of these. Show some honesty and integrity. Communicate with your employees. Stop playing stupid games with people. Use processes that work and bring in profits. When you force overtime, it shows how incompetent your management is. Stop the sleazy hiring games. Show some backbone and stop being a joke!

    Pros

    - If you are proactive with your career and engage your management actively, you can go almost anywhere.
     - Compensation is good, but tied primarily into the stock. The better the company does, the better you do.
     - Darwinistic culture means you generally work with some solid people.
     - Customer is the focus and not in the company jargon sense, but really the core foundation of everything we do.
     - This is a writing culture, be prepared to write well thought and constructed 6 pagers.

    Cons

    - Work-life balance can be very rough for some to maintain. It requires some backbone however, to simply say to your management that this deadline isn't deliverable and here is why.
    - Compensation can be tricky since it is tied up so much in the stock.
    - Some employees slip through the cracks of the performance bar and can make life fairly miserable.
