I worked at Amec Foster Wheeler full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

9/80 work schedule allowed for a good amount of time off. 3 weeks PTO for new hires. Good 401K and medical insurance programs. The building and furniture are above average.

Cons

Upper management likes to micro-manage and monitor its employees. They ask for opinions from their employees, but they don't seem to want to implement any change related to employee satisfaction. When the previous CEO left for another office, bonuses and incentives diminished or disappeared. It's pretty difficult to get recognized for your achievements or hard work at this company. It's also hard to advance in the company unless you are buddy-buddy with someone with power and influence in the company.

Advice to Management

Listen to your employees, and try to trust them to be honest on their own.

I have been working at Amec Foster Wheeler full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

company is tying to build a better culture, through education employee development programs, introducing more effective annual review procedures, and educating management staff.

    Cons

Frequently what happens in the day to day operations is anathema to the message pomulgated from the top echelon of the company, thus the message is seen to be either subterfuge or demagoguery or outright lies. Annual reimbursement for education does not change for M.S and above, and the current allottment (while appreciated) would be challenging for an engineer to go back to school and feel they wre truly being helped financially. Toom uch out of pocket for advanced degrees.

    Advice to Management

Please be open to things that sound out of left field. If someone makes a suggestion for a way to better the business in any way, don't abandon it based on your first reaction. Think baout how it might help, as crazy as it might sound at the outset. You might find that people actually begin engaging as some innovation creeps into the business, and you might find yourself among top employers. That beiong said, you can go ahead and follow the status quo, and that is exactly what you will glean from your employees, the status quo; when you could be reaping rewards as a result of innovation in the industry. Undo the top button, loosen the tie and LISTEN to your people.

I worked at Amec Foster Wheeler part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Friendly co-workers, decent pay, work with you right out of high school, company community events

    Cons

The nature of the industry is that it is often feast or famine. The amount of work varies a lot, which can be difficult if you need a steady paycheck (depending on pay type).
