I have been working at Amedisys as an intern (More than a year)

    Pros

    for profit organization and 401k

    Cons

Management and DOO have a complexity of issues that puts them in a position of too much power and they bully and harrass employees, right after you do your annual inservice about workplace harrassment and verbal bullying like a high school childish issue. The whole company thinks the core believes are a cloud of bull that the gullible people can feed into so they can get productivity out of them when they are done or the person needs a break ,GOD forbid your expendable they will run add and replace you. Direct words of supervisory as she decided to terminate my employment for me not working since april and I told them to call me for needed work, I didn't call and sit and beg like a dog. So boss thru up personality issues I well acknowledge my forwardness of teaching and compaints she said of a census of 200 now listen to the statement : "you have more paitents that can't be seen than can be seen" and when confronted to the fact that this is assuming I can't see 100 patients, this was degrading, demoralizing and just plain mean .Each Region is like a country in Middle east this doo does this make the policy of the whole concept look disorganized , this was my second hire in and I expressed how much regret and now AMEdisys has a freeze with poor stock share prices you just wonder why they don't care to walk all over one person cause they know some one will walk in and ask for a job

    Advice to Management

Supervise each region and make the Doo's walk the walk, hold them accountible make them put scrubs on and work out in the demanding per visit day and then ask what expectations should be cause i can honestly say the reason i am not in management is cause i just can't be sweet and be so sweet with all the compliants that come in day to day each agency

"Hard work, unrealistic expectations, in the turbulent health care industry patient care suffers"

I have been working at Amedisys full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good Mission Statement, Disease Management Programs, Top down organization structure

    Cons

So overfocused on the bottom line (timely paperwork 24 hr, high productivity, per visit status of employees) that the team spirit needed in a home health setting is compromised. The goals of Home Care to provide individualized patient care and keep pt's out of the hospital suffer. The managment wants all work completed in 8 hour and if I did this they would assign additional patients outside my service area with the same expectations. I often heard complaints from my patients and from the families of patients I referred to the company for treatment that some clinicians spent 3/4 of their time documenting the visit. Any idea's I tried to share with the company to improve patient care had no affect on the overall company which is "top down only" in terms of the disease management programs they set up. They talk the talk but don't walk the walk.

    Advice to Management

Allow modification disease management programs for improvement up the chain , more realistic productivity / pay standards and transmission guildlines given number of mile driven, case load
