I have been working at Amedisys full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

The experience looks good on your resume, and the pay is ok. Healthcare is an industry with a great mission and a chance to touch people's lives... but Amedisys isn't great for that.

Cons

the executives really just don't have any idea what they're doing, and they bounce around new ideas, layoff people, cut departments, add them back, change incentive plans, reorganize people... all kinds of busy-ness in the hope that something works. Hope ain't a strategy.

Advice to Management

Cut the BS, stop guessing, and remember that you're messing with people's lives. Think about how your new ideas and processes eat up time and take people away from doing things that actually generate value for the company.

I worked at Amedisys full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

After working there for a year I don't think there are any good reasons to work there. Of course the other staff were nice but can't find another reason unless you are desperate for a job.

    Cons

the job was misrepresented when I was hired. Worked 10-13 hours a day. No lunches. Management had no interest in listening to the issues that the Nurses had. It is all about productivity. And if you can't keep up productivity they will let you go. Regardless of the circumstances. And yet they don't want any overtime. The mileage reimbursement is below what the Federal government allows. You have to stay on top of your mileage and pay check to make sure there are no mistakes. The poor PT and OT are paid a nominal fee for their visits. I honestly don't see how they survive on their salary. But that's Amedysis

    Advice to Management

It is hard to give advice or ideas for change to a company that does not foster the type of listening that is needed to make those changes. The biggest mistake was when they took this company public. Their first responsibility is to the shareholders, which puts a burden on the employees to see more patients and complete all the paper work/computer work in an untimely fashion. There are multiple problems in how the individual offices are managed. I would recommend classes that provide individual insight into what is lacking in their decision making process.
