I worked at AmeriCorps full-time (More than a year)

Pros

Fun adventures, making lifetime friends, getting a variety of experiences

Cons

Less leadership as to how to apply experiences to real life

Advice to Management

It will be very challenging as a team leader, less as a staff member. Although there are many trainings discussing how to lead a team, the truth is each team leader should probably design some method of tracking for their member's skills. Many people threw certain skills away or forgot them because they weren't applicable in that moment.

I worked at AmeriCorps full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Being an Americorps means you live in a small stipend (below minimum wage.) Technically you are a volunteer but if you complete your hours you get a nice amount of money towards higher education. You can put it towards previous or future higher learning.

Another thing that was good for my particular case was that after I completed my americorps hours, the place I was at hired me on.

    Cons

This is a review of the americorps side of my job. I was placed at a company but managed by the govt. (americorps). The people who managed me didn't seem to know what was going on. They lost my paper work in the beginning, didn't tell me about it, and it resulted in my not being paid for almost two months. I am not sure if the disorganization is nation wide or just in my area. Job satisfaction largely depends on where you are placed and how that particular company treats you.

    Advice to Management

Become more organized and keep the lines of communication open. When something is not handled right own up to it and make it right.
