Pros

Flexibility in work hours, convenient location, autonomy in my position.
Strong mission and dedicated volunteer members.
Smart coworkers who strive for excellence.
We have potlucks, team building activities, retreats, picnics.
About half the offices have doors and windows.

Cons

Limited willingness to accomodate telecommuting.
Too much focus on hours worked over actual productivity.
Can be hard to get ideas heard by long-term staff who are used to doing things by the old model.
Many positions require travel and working on weekends.

Advice to Management

Promote more transparency and communication among the divisions.
Show more appreciation to staff outside of favored areas.
Be more visible - spend more time around the office.

I worked at American Academy of Neurology full-time

    Pros

I was at the AAN for several years and really enjoyed it.

    Cons

The policies that should have been organization wide varied between departments. For example, one department had multiple people who worked on regular day from home. But another department would not allow anyone to work from home, even if their job duties allowed for it. An across the board policy on such things would be nice.
