Pros

Flexibility in work hours, convenient location, autonomy in my position.
Strong mission and dedicated volunteer members.
Smart coworkers who strive for excellence.
We have potlucks, team building activities, retreats, picnics.
About half the offices have doors and windows.

Cons

Limited willingness to accomodate telecommuting.
Too much focus on hours worked over actual productivity.
Can be hard to get ideas heard by long-term staff who are used to doing things by the old model.
Many positions require travel and working on weekends.

Advice to Management

Promote more transparency and communication among the divisions.
Show more appreciation to staff outside of favored areas.
Be more visible - spend more time around the office.

    Positive Outlook

    Pros

Very mission driven. Fabulous location and building. Great staff and physician volunteers. Executive team and physician leadership very committed to advancing the organization.

    Cons

For a few months before, hours planning and executing annual meeting. Many new initiatives in the works. Would love more leadership training for staff.

    Neutral Outlook

    Pros

The building is nice and new. There are things like a gym and locker room amenities.

    Cons

The culture is pretentious and fake. They talk up their culture to get you in the door but things are not what they seem. They will also bait and switch with promises to offer training to improve your relevant job skills. No such training will be found, once in-house, you are left to fend for yourself. The orientation classes are endless, exhausting, and boring. Middle/upper management will scape-goat you, like you've read about or seen on television but never first hand experienced yourself. Either you conform to their social structure and unwritten rules, or you are pushed out. They do not value diversity.

A lot amount of money is wasted at what is supposed to be a non-profit meant to serve the membership.

    Advice to Management

Let people in middle/upper manage go if they are the ones causing the problem. (Of course no one will take this advice.)
