I have been working at American Airlines full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

Free travel. Good health benefits if working in office as opposed to home based.
Great group of co workers and good for those who like a fast-paced environment.
Always opportunities to learn something new. Interesting customers...some difficult and some pleasant. If you appreciate the challenge of solving customer service issues in a way that satisfies both customer and company this is the job for you.

Cons

Very strict oversight and attendance policy. Starting pay is not easy to live on and it takes a while to reach a decent hourly rate of pay. At times the company's policies can be frustrating to deal with. To a certain extent the company is beginning to listen to and respond to employee comments and suggestions but it can be frustratingly slow to get responses to employee concerns and questions.

I have been working at American Airlines full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    flight benefits, Work from home

    Cons

Very low pay, Dont care about your personal/home life. VERY hard to get time off for anything let alone use the flight benefits. Great Employees get overlooked. Trained to work in several departments at the same time with no pay increase at all. Not forgiving for tardiness even in emergency cases.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the outcries of employees they make your company work. Have more flexibility options employe's home life, especially if they have kids. Please increase the pay, Families cannot survive off of $10 an hour

    Current Employee - Senior Engineer

    Pros

Free travel in coach after 5 years, no overtime expected, get to work around airplanes

    Cons

It's hard to travel standby with a family due to lack of empty seats on planes. The salary for engineers will always be less than the industry average. Lots of paperwork. As an engineer you hit the career ceiling pretty fast unless you go into one of the limited number of supervisory roles.
