I have been working at American Airlines full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

Fantastic travel benefits, even for less-senior employees
Some really great people.
Company has fine ethics, diversity.
Company tried, in the past, to limit outsourcing and protect United States jobs. With restructuring/bankruptcy this is no longer possible, but was a valiant/ethical effort.
IT Area, particularly AA.com is improving.

Cons

Some middle management sticking their noses into technical details they don't understand.
"Agile" project management philosophy is good, but is overly complicated and customized. Applied in a non-standard way in each department.
Lots of legacy, nasty software (SABRE/FOS)

Advice to Management

Fix hiring standards
Reduce project funding model complexity further
Reduce "agile" complexity to get it to work

I worked at American Airlines part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

--Awesome travel benefits (only pay the taxes on a flight, discounts on other carriers). Free flights after 5 years.
    --Great people to work with.

    Cons

    --Working through bankruptcy/merger problems.
--Although you are well-trained, mentored, and given lots of feedback and opportunities to improve, there are constant reminders that you are disposable. People can be terminated for very small things.
    --Job was hourly/low pay.

    Advice to Management

Invest in your employees so you have lower turnover.

I have been working at American Airlines full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Opportunities will always present themselves for people looking to excel. New experiences come every day. The pay is good in comparison to most companies.

    Cons

Unpredictable hours can be tiring. If you have a family be sure it is what you want. It can get stressful. Sometimes dealing with unhappy customers will have you doubtful.
