I have been working at American Airlines full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

The convenience of flying somewhere on a whim (if available). If you can handle quick and multiple process changes then this is the place for you.

Cons

You will get an occurrence if you sign in one second late. I needed surgery and advised HR two months in advance and provided FMLA documents and was advised I would still get an occurrence because it is their policy. Most of the performance is based on talk time so you have to move the customer quickly because it affects your rating.

Advice to Management

Please be a little more compassionate to the employees when it comes to processes. I know this is a business but I think it would keep employees from finding ways to work around the system or to the point of not caring if they get multiple occurrences.

I worked at American Airlines full-time

    Pros

Legacy carrier = first class. Good flight benefits if you know how to roll the dice with non-reving. Just don't even think about missing work because you couldn't catch a flight home. Decent health insurance.

    Cons

You'll stay in lower/ middle management unless you know someone 'up top.' Because of this there will be a lot of disgruntled worker bee drones just showing up to maintain a pay check. No real pride in the company anymore.
Everyone is on eggshells at all times. No one wants to risk losing their job in the merger. Think of Bill Lumbergh and 'The Bob's' in Office Space.
