I worked at American Apparel full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

American Apparel was always very flexible and my managers were always willing to work with me. After 9 months, I went from a sales associate to a cashier, then a lead cashier and eventually a team lead, which meant I was responsible for opening and closing the store. They paid pretty well and offered commission if you made over a certain amount an hour which wasn't hard because people that shop at AA are usually affluent enough to afford buying many clothes.

    Cons

They had a strick aesthetic guideline. You had to look a certain way or else you'd get written up. Sometimes we had pictures taken of us and sent to corporate so that they could see whether we were dressed well. The owner of the company, Dov, is pretty intimidating and blunt when he comes to visits the stores.

I have been working at American Apparel full-time

    Pros

People are awesome, they're super casual with work hours/dress/etc. Doesn't have a lot of the downsides that working for other corporations has, you can be pretty real with people and they'll understand if you're real with them.

    Cons

Office is in a factory, so the environment kinda sucks. Pay is meh, benefits are meh, CEO is meh.

    Advice to Management

Get a new CEO? Nothing will change with the CEO being the x-factor to the environment.
