I have been working at American Cancer Society full-time (Less than a year)

Pros

They give 100% of the money the raise to research and patient service. Amazing events...you definitely need to attend one and see all the fundraising efforts behind it!

Cons

none at the moment..just wish they had more job openings

Advice to Management

Please hire more people in your Queens and Manhattan offices...especially a special team to put on events on colleges, schools, conventions throughout the city, special events and more! I would love a full time job after my temp. assignment is over!

I have been working at American Cancer Society full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great flexibility on work hours - if you have the right manager. After a few years, you get great vacation. Everyone is reminded that no matter what they do within the organization, they are helping and are vital in the fight against cancer and without them, we would not be saving lives.

    Cons

You do not make nearly enough money to cover the night hours and weekend hours put in to the position. Too many repeats or seemingly unnecessary upper management, however - nationwide change is in place and coming down the pike...it is to be determined if these changes are for the better. There is NO way to move up in the organization - once someone gets a management position they don't leave - it's a very cushy job.

    Advice to Management

Respect the hours your employees put in, and the sometimes complete disregard volunteers have for your home/life balace.
