Negative Outlook
Disapproves of CEO

I worked at American Cancer Society full-time (More than a year)

Pros

Responsible organization overall. Great resource for cancer patients and strong commitment to mission. There can be opportunities to work with minimal supervision if you earn it.

Cons

Wow, there are so many mid level managers that are completely unqualified and have no business sense. Extremely high turnover. Terrible "business models." Trainings are a waste of time. Complete lack of concern for entry level staff morale. Sad to say this because I believe in the organization, but from an employment standpoint I think it's a pretty bad place to work.

Advice to Management

Fire yourselves?

    No opinion of CEO

I have been working at American Cancer Society as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Opportunity to help people. Most employees aren't there for the money, but because they are passionate about their job. Follow their "rules," and you'll be fine.

    Cons

Very bureaucratic. Set models and guidelines that you are expected to follow, yet they supposedly encourage out-of-the-box thinking.

    Advice to Management

Actually encourage and reward people for being innovative! If you're going to structure yourself as a corporation, you need to restructure your management too.
