I have been working at American Cancer Society full-time (More than a year)

Pros

No extra work to take home.

Cons

Not enough pay and constant change to what we have to say/do on the phones. Very hard to advance. Its hard to market yourself to other branches of the company because management does not know what you do.

    Pros

Good pay and benefits, loved the volunteers

    Cons

Poor leadership and upper management, they ignore Ethics Complaints even though employees are at times required to make them

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to Ethics Complaints, especially repeated ones about the same manger. Allow on-site managers to make more decisions without intrusion from above. Practice what you preach about treating people well. Don't promote based on tenure with company, promote managers based on management ability.

I have been working at American Cancer Society full-time

    Pros

An amazing organization if you want to make a difference in the lives of others!

    Cons

    1. Top heavy. Executive management with six figure salaries at the top and fundraisers responsible for income scraping by on low level pay. 2. No work life balance. You are told that they encourage it, but you are on call 24/7 and can get in trouble if you are inaccessible. 3. Favoritism. You better have someone in upper management that likes you or you'll never advance. Your workload will increase, but not your pay or title.

    Advice to Management

Really disheartening to see you cut so many community/patient related services and jobs that support these wonderful programs, but the top level of executives still continues to grow. Stop cutting jobs because the "survivors" are overloaded and ready to jump ship leaving with all of the history and experience.
