I have been working at American Cancer Society full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

When I started over two years, I thought I had found my "dream" job. I believed that I was making a major contribution to a great company and an even greater cause.

    Cons

TRANSFORMATION has changed the feel of the organization. On paper it sounds like the right idea, however, there have been so many empty promises along the way that it has demoralized the staff. The political game here is much worse than any for-profit organization I've ever worked for before coming to ACS.

    Advice to Management

Don't tell the people out in the field that you feel their pain. You don't because you haven't had to listen to all your promises to keep doing a great job only to find that you have to apply for a job that has already been determined who will get it before interviews even begin.

    Pros

Flexibility in your schedule. Ability to truly make a difference and see the fruits of your labor. The programs and services offered to patients by this organization are unparalled (unfortunately they struggle telling that story)

    Cons

The organization struggles in being timely, they are slow to make decisions and in order to be successful through their transformation they need to focus on being much more agile and responsive in the new climate.
